• 2020-09-02 Online International Exchange and Cooperation Seminar Held Between Physical Education College of JLU and University of Southern Queensland

    At 11 am Beijing time (1 pm Sydney time) on August 31, 2020, the online international exchange and cooperation seminar was successfully heldjointly by the Physical Education College of Jilin University and the University of Southern Queensland in Australia.Main attendees included Zhang Guangcui, Director of the Office of Global Engagement of Jilin University, Professor Peter Terry, Dean of Graduate School of University of Southern Queensland, Professor Qiu Peng, Dean of Physical Education College of Jilin University, and Bai Yin, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Engagement, together with more than 60 audience, including experts and scholars in related fields from both sides, relevant leaders of the International Department of the University of Southern Queensland, members of the relevant leadership team of the Physical Education College of Jilin University, teachers and students. The seminar was co-chaired by Professor Peter Terry and Professor Qiu Peng.

    Director Zhang Guangcui extended warm welcome to the participating leaders, teachers and students of the physical education majors of the two universities, and hoped that the two sides could promote the substantive cooperation in the future through academic exchanges.

    Professor Peter Terry delivered a speech on the seminar. He first expressed his gratitude to the Office of Global Engagement of Jilin University for their preparation of this online seminar and sincere greetings to Dean Qiu Peng, and then introduced the Australian scholars present and their research directions.

    Then, Professor Qiu Peng in his speech expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Offices for international partnership of both sides for their efforts and strong support to promote exchanges and cooperation between the two universities. He said that it was a great honor to be able to conduct online seminars on related research in the field of "physical education and sports health" with experts and scholars from the University of Southern Queensland in the COVID-19 epidemic period. He reviewed the visit of Professor Peter Terry to Jilin University last October and was very happy to have the opportunity to meet Professor Peter Terry again. Later, he introduced to the Australian experts the teachers carrying out exchange and reporting and leaders attending the seminar from the Physical Education College, and extended a warm welcome to the teachers and students who participated in this exchange seminar online and offline. He hoped that today's seminar could be a good starting point for the exchange and cooperation between the two sides and looked forward to more opportunities for cooperation down the road.

    Subsequently, experts and scholars from both sides shared relevant research in the fields of sports and exercise science, sports and sports psychology, physical activity and behavioral medicine. In the field of sports and exercise science, Professor Tim Gabbett gave a presentation on the topic of "Application of Science in Elite Sports" from the aspects of load management and physical fitness requirements of competitive sports; Professor Zou Xiaofeng gave a presentation on “Research Progress and Prospects of Speed Skating Biomechanics” and shared with the participants the main content of his team's current research and some explorations made in the process of serving national speed skaters with science and technology, and envisioned the future research situation. In the field of physical education and sports psychology, Professor Peter Terry reported on the topic "The potential for cooperation between the University of Southern Queensland and Jilin University in physical education and sports psychology". He first presented his own research field and his research experience in the past ten years to the attendees present, shared the application research of the emotional analysis and intervention research of athletes--the emotional scale, and proposed the direction of future cooperation; Professor Qiu Peng made a report on "Project Planning for the Integrated Development of University Sports and Student Mental Health" by elaborating on the prospects of future cooperation and development from four aspects: the project research background, research goals and significance, research content and feasibility analysis. In the field of sports activities and behavioral medicine, Professor Tracy Kolbe-Alexander from Australia made a detailed report on the study of shift workers’ physical activity in terms of the health status , source analysis of health conditions and intervention methods. Professor Stuart Biddle explained the active exercise lifestyle by focusing on the three themes of behavior change, muscle strength training and overall exercise; Dr. Zheng Yan from the Physical Education College vividly expounded the viewpoint of "relative saliency's influence on the stability of coordinated movement between limbs" by sharing the experiment of "the influence of relative saliency on the coordination and restriction of hands and fingers" and the experiment of "the stability of coordination between hands and fingers is restricted by significant phase", with the title of "research on the influence of relative significance on the stability of coordinated movement between limbs", leading to active and lively discussions on the scene.

    During the exchange and Q&A session, scholars from both sides gave speeches in turns on the issues they were interested in. With active and extensive discussions, future cooperation on their respective research topics were proposed.

    Finally, Professor Peter Terryexpressed that he hoped to carry out multidisciplinary and long-term academic exchange activities with the Physical Education College of Jilin University as soon as possible and looked forward to the future cooperation and development of both sides.

    Professor Qiu Peng made a concluding speech. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Professor Peter Terry and the experts of his team for the wonderful report, and pointed out that international exchange work should be a catalyst for the development of the college, hoping to improve the college's teachers and students' scientific research capabilities and expand international vision through international exchanges. He said he learned a lot from this seminar and thanked the Office of Global Engagement and the leading teachers of Australia for their preparatory work, and hoped that the two sides would put specific cooperation issues on the agenda as soon as possible to open a new chapter for joint progress.
